Linux and Unix timelines

These are impressive.

GNU/Linux distro timeline, covering 1992 to the present, and Unix history, which includes a Unix timeline spanning 1969 to now.

The explosion of Linux distributions over the past eight years or so is particularly eye opening.

BBC Micro is 26

Memories of the BBC Micro from four of the architects of the machine from the early 1980’s.

The BBC Micro was, for many in the UK, their first introduction to home computing.

Fantastic machine - I had one and cut my teeth on BBC BASIC.

3D printing for everyone

Speaking of 3D this looks amazing.

The Industry Standard reports on the background to the University of Bath open-source printer that can even replicate most of its own parts.

The Replicating Rapid-prototyper manufactures components by building them up in layers of plastic.

The next version will allow the machine to make its own and other circuitry, bringing it one step closer to complete self-replication.

The future is here!
